Overview of Simon Commission

The Simon Commission, officially known as the Indian Statutory Commission, was a group of seven members of the British Parliament appointed in 1927 to review the working of the Government of India Act 1919. Chaired by Sir John Simon, the Commission arrived in India in 1928 to study constitutional reforms in the country, but it faced criticism for not including any Indian delegates. The outcome of the Simon Commission was the Government of India Act 1935, which called for a "responsible" government at the provincial level in India, but not at the national level.
