Preppy, also spelled preppie, is a subculture in the United States associated with young people who attend expensive private schools and are conservative in their attitudes, behavior, and style of dress. The preppy fashion style is characterized by neat, understated, and often expensive clothing items such as plaid button-downs, chino shorts, loafers, and brightly colored polos with popped collars. The preppy aesthetic is also focused on bright colors and animal patterns like cheetah, giraffe & leopard pattern. The term "Preppy" is often used to describe someone who is well off and upper-class. Some people may confuse the preppy aesthetic with the VSCO Preppy aesthetic, which focuses on bright colors and animal patterns, or the Softies aesthetic.
