Avissawella is a township located in Sri Lanka's Colombo district, governed by an Urban Council. The town has a rich history as the former capital of the Sitawaka Kingdom from 1521 to 1593. Avissawella is known for gem mining (corundum varieties) and the Seethawaka Botanical Garden.
