Transferrin saturation is a medical laboratory value that is measured as a percentage. It is the ratio of serum iron concentration and total iron-binding capacity expressed as a percentage. Transferrin saturation is used to detect iron deficiency or overload in the body. Transferrin saturation values of less than 20% suggest iron deficiency, while those of more than 50% indicate iron overload.
